Medieval Episcopal Castle.

Kuressaare [1] is the capital of Saaremaa, the largest of Estonia's islands.

Although the city has only a population of around 15,300 people, it has a big heart. The earliest records of Kuressaare is a document written in 1424 that mentions that the town was used as a fortified residency for local catholic bishop and was the main center for the islands in the western Estonia. Kuressaare, was previously known as Arensburg, and it received city status in 1563.
