This is a landmark since Nepal first opened to tourist at the end of WW ll. At that time the King was living in exile in Calcuta and was ask to returne to govern the nation.He ask Boris lesonavich a white russian also in exile to come to nepal and establish tourist accomidations in Kathmandu as he pland to open the kingdom for tourism. He established the Palace Hotel in a large Rana Palace that was avalable. He named the Bar "The yak and Yeti" Early Everist expiditions put up there and used the grounds to organise their gear for the climb. The airport at this time was the Kings Polo grounds out side of town a bit.. The present downtown Hotel is also located at the site of an old palace that was at one timt the foreigh Post office for Kathmandu.The beutiful present day Hotel was built up around and incorporating the old buildings. they bill themselvs as a five star hoter and resturant and in fact they live up to this rating. http://www.yakandyeti.com/
