Golf is a well established sport in England. It has in excess of 1,900 golf clubs according to the English Golf Union. Men's Golf has been organised on a National basis since 1924, although this is later than the other British Isles National Unions, and the United States Golf Association. That being said many of England's golf clubs have histories stretching back further.

One of Golf's Major Competions, The Open Championship is held in England approximately every two years. It was last held in England in 2006 at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, [Wirral]. It will host the open next, in 2008 at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club, Lancashire.
