Gao a small city of 38.000 inhabitants in the Gao region on the Niger River in eastern Mali.

Understand

The city is a trade city. In the 15th and 16th centuries it was the centre of the Songhai Empire. It was founded in the 7th century, when it was called Kawkaw

Get in
