False Bay is the bay to the east of the Cape Peninsula near Cape Town, South Africa.

Understand

It is called False Bay, because of the tendency for early Dutch sailors to mistake it for Table Bay.

• The water, from the Indian Ocean, is warmed by the Agulhas current, and is around 5°C warmer than the Atlantic Ocean water on the western side of the Cape Peninsula. Locals love to go swimming all year round. If you are staying near the Peninsula, you can also go to the beaches at Muizenberg or Simon's Town and enjoy a day at the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
• The Southern Right Whale can often be seen in the False Bay, especially during the whale season (about August to November). A good spot to see whales is at Cape Point, the most southern tip of the Cape Peninsula.
