Eskdale Green is a small village at one end of the Eskdale Valley. It can be found when travelling by car from Holmrook on the western coast of Cumbria or more popularly by train from Ravenglass. The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, better known as the La'al Ratty, winds its way from Ravenglass on the coast through the valley of Eskdale past Eskdale Green and terminates at Dalegarth for Boot station. Boot is but a stones throw from the terminus of the railway and is probably of more interest to the traveler. The hamlet of Boot has an old corn mill in the heart but wander south away from the mill to find the little old church by the river. The only sounds to be heard are the water, the birds and probably the odd sheep. The "main road" is a single track road which stretches from the western coast, through Eskdale Green and on over the Hardknott Pass (which claims to be one of the steepest passes in England with its 3 in 1 hair pin bends) Past the Hardknott Roman Fort and over the mountains towards Ambleside. But that's if you want to leave this idyllic valley. There are three good real ale pubs in Boot, The Boot Inn, The Brook House and towards Hardknott The Woolpack Inn http://www.woolpack.co.uk/ a former 16th century coaching Inn, whish also has adjoined Hardknott brewery. Eskdale is a superb place to base a walking holiday. Weather you are looking for the higher fells like Scafell Pike or more serine valley floor walks by rivers and woods there is something for all.

City name is a city in Region name.
