Get in

By Bus

Long distance Citylink [1] coaches from Glasgow, Fort William and Inverness to the Isle of Skye stop in Dornie, although you should tell the driver / wave at him to stop.

During the summer, frequent local buses operated by Stagecoach [2] run to and from Kyle of Lochalsh and Skye. These are substantially cheaper than the Citylink services.

By Train

Several trains a day run on the scenic railway from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, from where you can catch a bus or coach (see above).

By Car

Get around

The village of Dornie is situated about 200m off the main road, and many visitors only go to the Castle on the other side of the road. It's only 5 minutes walk between the two.

See

  • Eilean Donan Castle - a real picture postcard castle, it sits on its own small island about 50m into Loch Duich, reached by crossing a stone bridge / causeway. Remodelled several times into an 'ideal' castle, it is well worth a visit, with some interesting rooms and exhibits.

Do

  • Go hiking[3] - this is one of the best areas for walking in Scotland.

Buy

Eat

  • There is a fairly good cafe in the Visitors Centre
  • Pubs in the village itself.

Drink

  • Pubs in the village itself.
  • Hectors Plaice and Bothy, Station Road (Kyle of Lochalsh), 01599 534248, [4]. Best fish and chips in area. Great well priced cafe next door. Good food and friendly staff. Cafe breakfast highly recommended!!!
