Chedworth is a village in the Cotswolds, seven miles north of Cirencester. It is most famous for its Roman Villa, cared for by the National Trust. Many of the buildings were built hundreds of years ago, and the local pub, the Seven Tuns is a pleasant (if busy) place to retire after walking through the surrounding countryside.

Get in

The railway line that once cut through the village was closed in the 1960s. This leaves the visitor with either

• The bus service (once a week to the village! or several times a day to a stop on the main road (the Fosse way - aka A429), two miles away).
• Walking, if you're staying nearby then walking here is possible. However don't expect to find somewhere to stay the night.
• By Car. This is probably the only sensible way to get here, parking could be a problem though. To get here you'll generally want to get onto the A429 (the Fosse way). The turn off for the village is in a dip and is just a small country lane.

Get around

The village is about a mile long, so there's no need to drive once inside the village. The centre of the village is smaller than that anyway, with the Church and Pub within 2 minutes walk of each other.

Buy

At the South East end of the village on Fields Road there is a large farm shop. This has dairy and butchery sections, featuring local produce as well as "basics". Attached to the shop is cafe with views over farm land and space for children to play.

Eat and Drink

• The Seven Tuns serves lunch and dinner every day of the week has a garden behind and by the water wheel. Specials are offered everyday.
• The Hare and Hounds pub on the main road (A 429), just south of the Chedworth turnoff also serves food (more restaurant style than bar snacks).
• Fossebridge North of the Cirencester turning has reasonable priced pub food and a pleasant garden next to the Coln river. Accommodation is also offered here.

Sleep

• The Old Bakery, Queen Street, Just past the pub. Need feedback
