Changde is a city in Hunan.
Changde city proper, with a population of almost 500,000 is the largest city in the prefecture of Changde (pop. 6 million).
The Shimen-Changsha Railway line runs through Changde. The train station is located in the north of the city.
National Highways 207 and 319 run through the city. Busses coming in from Changsha will drop travelers off at the northern terminal (just west of the train station).
Buses run regularly throughout the city on set routes. (¥1; ¥1.5 with a/c)
Taxis are cheap and plentiful (¥5 is the starting cost for cabs in Changde). Prices can be negotiated in advance for lengthier rides.
South of the Bridge Market (朝南市场; chao2 nan2 shi4 chang3) - This is a massive complex of shops that sell nearly everything. This is the place for the lowest prices in the city on items like appliances, clothing, shoes, sporting equipment, dish ware, and the list goes on; there's a shop that sells just about anything you could ever want, and for cheap. Be sure to bargain to get the best price.
