Binsar is predominantly an oak and rhododendron forest, with pine trees in the lower reaches.

Kathgodam is the nearest rail head that is well connected to Delhi (overnight journey) and other major cities. The fastest, easiest albeit a bit more expensive way to go to Binsar is to take a cab from Kathgodam. Alternatively, you could take a local bus or shared cab to Almora and then hire a cab from there to take you to the wildlife sanctuary.

- The Tourist rest house run by KMVN. Rs 2400 per night for simple but quiet rooms. village ways run by the Mountain resort, Khali estate is an interesting prospect which allows one to walk to the villages in Binsar and stay with the villagers in their homes.
