Based on the local folklore, the name Baturaden derives from two Javanese words, Batur which is means friend, or assistant, or maid, and Raden which is means noble. The story tells that there was a princess that falling in love with her maid. So, they were done their love story secretly. But the princess's father knew about that, and kicked out both of them. Finally, they found a beautiful place and decided to live there. They named the place as Baturaden. At the present time, Baturaden stands as one of the region's most prominent tourist destination. With its nature beauty and adventurous venues, Baturaden showed off its charm with its own way, as well as the jewel of the regency.
There are plenty of angkots that serves Baturaden from Purwokerto. The Kebon Dalem Angkot Sub-Terminal and Pasar Wage in Purwokerto usually serves as the terminus for the angkots which are head to Baturaden
