Ballyragget Square

Ballyragget(Irish: Béal Atha Raghad meaning Mouth of Ragget's Ford) is a town in north County Kilkenny. It has a population of 1,450. The town is beside the river Nore.

It is named after Richard Le Ragget, a Norman who owned the land around the town in the 13th century.

Ballyragget is 18km from Kilkenny on the N77 road.

Ballyragget is very small, and easy to walk around.

See

  • Ormond Castle (Ballyragget Castle). The ruins of a large medieval keep build in 1495 is found the the town. The keep is surrounded by walls and a 4 round turrets. There is also a wishing chair.
  • Catholic Church. In the town's square
  • Donoughmore Cemetery and ruins. Visit the ruins of an old church that was founded by St. Patrick.
