An archaeological site is a place of human remnants from pre-history or history.

The leave no trace principle is mandatory for these places. Legal consequences for desecrating an archaeological site, or removing artifacts, might be harsh.

Some archaeological sites might give opportunities for tourists to take part in excavations.
