The town of Oakmont, which lies in the northeastern part of the county on the east bank of the Allegheny River, is definitely worth a visit.  This is small town America within a metropolitan area at it's best (very much like the fictional town of "Bedford Falls" in Frank Capra's movie "It's a Wonderful Life").  Although it's best known outside of the area as the home of the world famous Oakmont Country Club, locals know the town offers upscale shopping, dining, and entertainment options by independently run local businesses.  Oakmont also reflects the four seasons very well so virtually anytime of the year is a great time to visit.

Most of the action lies on the parallel dual roads that span about 2 miles from north to south through the heart of town.  Allegheny River Boulevard is on the east where the town's Post Office and one of the historic Carnegie Library's is.  Allegheny Avenue lies just 50 feet to it's west.
