[Redigera] Spam
Kindly stop spamming us with links to the same hotel aggregator site in Daytona. You'll be permanently blocked if you keep doing it. Furthermore, we do not have time to translate your contributions to swedish, nor to our chosen list format. Riggwelter 15 juli 2008 kl. 12.36 (CEST)
- Riggwelter, kindly stop deleting the hotel sites I am adding to Daytona Beach. This is NOT SPAM and I consider your actions to be vandalism. The hotels are owned by the "Ocean Waters" company (25 hotels owned by the company) in Daytona Beach and are PRIMARY LINKS for reservations. If you delete them again, I shall complain to the administrators of WikiTravel. Furthurmore, if you do not have time to work on this guide, perhaps you should not be interfering with the work of others. Gamweb 15 juli 2008 kl. 18.48 (CEST)
- So, Gamweb, first of all: thanks for registering on the swedish version rather than contributing anonymously. Secondly: thanks also for your contributions. Now to my reasons for reacting like I did:
- Wikitravel in swedish has been subject to major spam attacks (like many other language versions). Fighting spam takes a lot of time and that's why anonymous contributions, whether we like it or not, are regarded with some suspicion.
- Judging by the history of the Daytona Beach page, you have tried to add the hotels you mentioned using IP addresses in the IANA namespace. Because of to the high internet penetration in Sweden, where it is popular to use IANA addresses to spam wiki sites, because of the high spam problem we have experienced, and because of the market value of advertising on Wikitravel (which, as we know, gets very high ratings when googling on a topic), all anonymous and especially IANA edits, are regarded with suspicion.
- We do not consider it a very good thing to market hotels based on a single web page only (daytonahotels.com), nor do we think it is a very good idea to market basically one chain only (Ocean Waters), because it would simply be undue weight. Plus, daytonahotels.com and Ocean Waters as companies would of course be very happy to have a so called neutral travel guide online to advertise their hotels. I am not saying you did this on purpose - but the impression it gives is, unfortunately, that it seems to be biased. I do not think we can afford that. On the other hand, we are of course happy to expand the swedish version of Wikitravel, but it has to be done wisely.
- I spend a lot of time on Wikitravel, and if you, once again read what I said before, we do not have time to translate your contributions to swedish, nor to our chosen list format. That is: foreign contributions must be translated to swedish, and to our local format, where we differ slightly from the english version. I am an administrator and a bureaucrat. My job is to interfer to keep up the standards. So if you want to complain to the administrators or bureaucrats of Wikitravel, here I am, and I am listening.
- So, I suggest you take a look at the hotels list in the article and see if they can be either reduced or at least appear less biased by adding more hotels to the list, hotels which are not owned by the same company or appear on the same home page. You have a local knowledge which we do not have, and that is highly valuable. Riggwelter 16 juli 2008 kl. 10.20 (CEST)
