[edit] Bureaucrat noms

So I realize that some of the users that I've nominated are still fairly new to Wikitravel... if it makes people more comfortable, we could also just nominate someone from Shared or :en that's a long-time contributor, who can easily be reached if needed... Hebrew comes to mind, and Hungarian where there are no active admins at the moment – cacahuate talk 13:23, 11 October 2008 (EDT)

How should we handle those that don't show acceptance? I'm inclined to not promote without. Perhaps on language versions that aren't very active right now, we can promote someone from Shared or :en who's around a lot and trusted... and note on their talk page on that version where they can best be contacted if needed – cacahuate talk 17:05, 23 October 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, I wouldn't promote anyone who doesn't know they're being promoted. If someone's willing to take on the task for a language version, great. But I doubt any of us can deal with that backwards Hebrew script... I could ask Alexander Klyuch if he'd be interested in the task, but I'm just about to disappear for two weeks and don't have time at the moment. --Peter Talk 19:36, 23 October 2008 (EDT)
Well, the thing is that there's almost nothing to do... as long as you've listed where to contact yourself at, the only responsibilities are assigning admin and bot status to users once they've passed nomination, making sure that procedure was followed. And I believe that the relevant special pages will (or can) still be in English – cacahuate talk 20:51, 23 October 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Switches & IB

It's past 14 days of discussion, and my switches need flipping on pl, fr, he, hu, it. That will require work from IB (about 2-3 mins worth). Would someone other than me please contact them at tech at wikitravel.org. If they are non-responsive, it might be worthwhile to shoot Evan an email.

This actually is a bit urgent. Versions like the French one are really losing good content, which will be hard and complex to restore. Rein & I have been trying to clean up these benighted versions, but without admin tools it's rather in vain—it will require a fairly heavy hand with page protects & blocks (since we have noone moderating them). And I could stop the enormous and constant, year-long spam bot attacks on the Hebrew version, for example, in about 1 min with two protects and ~10 blocks. That would help all language versions by showing the bots that we do mod our own sites. --Peter Talk 20:10, 9 August 2009 (EDT)

I'll do it. And I'd like to send a cc to you since I think it's better to open the communication with IB like this. Can you let me know your email address via wiki mail? If there was a mailing list, I sent a cc to it. ;-) -- Tatata 11:27, 10 August 2009 (EDT)
I've emailed you. --Peter Talk 16:16, 10 August 2009 (EDT)
I sent a request to IB. Maybe, it will take several days from my experience. -- Tatata 21:37, 10 August 2009 (EDT)

[edit] 2011

Similar issue, years on... I've emailed Aude, Ricardo, and Cacahuate, enlisting their help flipping switches. Lets see who beats who to the punch (ignoring the fact that IB was given several weeks head start, to keep things interesting). --Peter Talk 19:51, 1 September 2011 (EDT)
