No more automatic br's[edit]

We were having some problems with listing tags where a spurious <br /> tag (line break) would appear at the end of a list of listings. I tracked down the source of the tag, and as an emergency fix just diked out the code that adds it. This also cleans up some of the extra whitespace at the end of articles that use RDF templates and interlanguage links.

However, it also disables the use of multiple blank lines to add whitespace on purpose. My feeling was that this little-documented feature of MediaWiki is rarely if every used on Wikitravel. So I didn't think the tradeoff was too bad. More often than not, this seems to have been added accidentally rather than on purpose.

If there are any complaints about not being able to force a line-break by adding lots of blank lines, please let me know and I'll try to figure out a work-around. Otherwise, I'm going to leave it disabled. --Evan 16:02, 30 October 2006 (EST)

I am not sure I understand. Which feature got disabled? The only feature I know of is that hitting an enter key adds a new line. AFAIK, the only way to add a paragraph break is to hit enter twice. That seems to be working fine. — Ravikiran r 04:20, 31 October 2006 (EST)
Before it was possible to add lots of empty space by adding lots of empty lines, like this (click Edit to see):

It doesn't work anymore, as many empty lines get collapsed to one. Jpatokal 05:42, 31 October 2006 (EST)
Exactly. It is a "feature" that hasn't always been part of MediaWiki, and that we don't really use that much. --Evan 23:58, 31 October 2006 (EST)
