Please don't change categories yet! They are new, and there are many mistakes in the names that need to be fixed. Jpatokal 08:51, 4 March 2007 (EST)

[edit] Kudos

Great work on the welcomes! Maj 22:59, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

Thank you Maj, but I just do it for the users who created their account in July. I don't know whether I should do the same for older users or not.
P.S. I noticed that the red bot for new message did not work for IE6 on shared:. But strangely, the mechanism to turn off is worked. ??? -- Tatata 23:36, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

[edit] copyright policy

Sorry to have added an image released under an incompatible license (Image:373296152 5f5620faf9.jpg). I've had a look at the WT licensing policy, and for future reference would like to confirm. On Flickr, there are six kinds of CC license ([1]). Is it only the top on the list, Attribution 2.0, and the bottom one of these four, Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0, that are compatible with WT licensing. Thanks for your help. Frequenttrekker 04:11, 15 July 2007 (EDT)

I think the icons on that page are too small to know at a glance. So never mind about the vfd, but please be careful next time. ;-) -- Tatata 05:24, 15 July 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for your reply, but I am still concerned that the license that the image was released under may not be compatible with WT's sharing policy. Here is the license policy: [2] Please take a look, and I'd be grateful for your opinion. If you think it is ok, then I'll replace the image. However, I have some doubts, because the release-license has limitations on commercial use for the image, whereas WT does not place such restrictions on the use of its material. Thanks for your help. Frequenttrekker 05:35, 15 July 2007 (EDT)
Sorry, it must be a problem of my ability to speak English. The reason of the vfd is not the people in the scene, but the cc-by-nc. I said that the icon indicating Noncommercial is too small. It is a subtle judgment for me to apply the policy about people in photos to that photo ; personally, I can't submit vfd against that photo with this policy. I'm not sure that my reply is appropriate for you, but we can't use that photo anyway. -- Tatata 06:43, 15 July 2007 (EDT)
I think you are right, WT cannot use materials having limitations on commercial use. There is a sentence It can be used for commercial ventures, advertisements, or other purposes (with some restrictions -- see privacy rights and publicity rights) without your direct control. in Copyleft#Things for contributors to know. -- Tatata 06:59, 15 July 2007 (EDT)
Your English was perfect. I read your sentence incorrectly, and had already changed my question before you replied a second time. Anyway, now the situation is clearer. Thanks for help. I appreciate it. Frequenttrekker 09:09, 15 July 2007 (EDT)

[edit] More kudos

I really appreciate all the work you do in maintaining shared's categories and double-checking images, this place would be a total mess without you! --Peter 01:55, 30 July 2007 (EDT)

Thank you Peter, I'm glad at this message. I think it is great that you volunteered to be liaison for ru:. Good luck! -- Tatata 03:09, 30 July 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Image credit templates

Two questions:

  1. Would it be possible to have the Template:Imagecredit auto-load into the upload summary? So that uploaders would not even have to click it?
  2. Is there a reason why Template:Flickr4 uses the word "Taken" instead of "Date"? We use "Date" on the other two image credit templates, so it might be better to standardize this. --Peter Talk 18:02, 30 July 2007 (EDT)

Hi Peter! I think the auto-load is very very nice idea, so I create a Commons account because I can't find it on wikipedia. At last I find that they are using JavaScript for it. If Evan enables MediaWiki:Common.js to work, I can try to make a code. About Template:Flickr4, I guess the word was taken from Flickr. There is the word "Taken on" below "Some rights reserved." on the right side. [3] -- Tatata 02:20, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

I do think this would be very useful. Should we contact Evan on his talk page or would this be a feature request? --Peter Talk 03:23, 3 August 2007 (EDT)
Probably it's better to make a tech request first because I've already been said to do so by him about a very similar case. (→ en:User talk:Evan#JS and CSS) And then, we put a link to the tech request on his talk page. But there are over 80 open feature requests, so we may need to wait our turn for a long time... ;=) Should we talk about this as Riggwelter pointed out a backlog of bug reports? -- Tatata 01:31, 4 August 2007 (EDT)

This section was moved from User:Tatata page by Tatata 20:06, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

Please tell me which are copywrited..I check them all. and which are duplicates? I would appreciate knowing..

The skyline I am adding again, because I was asked to, because it was not d/l through shared. I wanted to now add it through Shared so it could be used. cupcake discussed it with me.

thanks Flowergirl 13:04, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

I left a message on your talk page. -- Tatata 21:12, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

I received your message. The Miami Transit that I d/l from wikipedia IS a copyvio, but I thought that all pictures on wikipedia were free and able to be used. Now that I know this, I will check out their pictures carefully. As for the duplicates, I also did not know that I could or should check wikishared for pictures prior to going to wiki. I got them all from wikipedia, I think, and not flickr. I have no problem searching wikishared first before checking elsewhere, now that I know about it. sorry for causing such problems.;)

Flowergirl 22:55, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

I appreciate your cooperation and I think it is not serious problem because many other users do same thing, so please never mind about the vfd. Thank you. -- Tatata 23:50, 31 July 2007 (EDT)
One more thing, I knew that User:Cupcakecommander contributed to the article of Baku on ja:. Thank you for the skyline. -- Tatata 00:52, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

ok i'm sorry I will try to correct the photos Bye. User:Dario

[edit] Uploading instruction templates in different languages

Would it be useful to create some basic language-specific text templates regarding upload use? For example: "Please use the Template:Imagecredit when uploading a file," or "Please do not forget to specify both the source and licensing of all files you upload here; without them the file will be deleted." If so, let me know and I can at least get some working in Spanish for all the recent contributors. --Peter Talk 03:28, 3 August 2007 (EDT)

Yes, it's useful for new comers and helpful for shared too! But now, I want to search for something related this. I will let you know later on your talk page. -- Tatata 01:43, 4 August 2007 (EDT)
I was thinking of a more "quick fix," we would have brief templated instructions in different languages that we could put on a new user's talk page, if he/she is not uploading files correctly. But I think having language specific portals is ultimately the best way to direct users; that just takes more time to set up. Now that I see Ricardo's, however, I think I might try to copy his for the Russian and Spanish language versions! --Peter 04:57, 4 August 2007 (EDT)
I have not created any templates yet, but I have started a list of multilingual boilerplate messages for various circumstances, to be left on users talk pages. If you would like to contribute to this list, please feel free! --Peter Talk 01:30, 2 September 2007 (EDT)
Nice templates! I'll add Japanese templates to the list. -- Tatata 04:18, 3 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] My (old) images

All my old images, on shared, en and ja, are {{dual-gfdl-cc-by-sa-any}} and you, or any other contributor are welcome to add tags.

Old images with no tags should not be deleted just because they are older than the tagging system: instead, they should be marked as {{cc-by-sa-1.0}} by default. Jpatokal 03:28, 6 August 2007 (EDT)

I do not agree with you on marking as {{cc-by-sa-1.0}} by default. See this and this. It should be marked as {{Dont know}} and should be added to VFD page when the contributor doesn't correct it. And I have decided to cancel my suggestion about delegation because this is not my job but yours: instead, I will put a {{Dont know}} tag. -- Tatata 04:11, 6 August 2007 (EDT)
For my own images, if you put "Don't know", then you have to make many edits and I have to make an edit to fix it, which is a waste of time. If you put {{dual-gfdl-cc-by-sa-any}}, then it's just one edit and everybody is happy. Jpatokal 00:58, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
Yes, you are right. Since I thought so, I had suggested the delegation as a written permission to do so because I'm not your servant or slave. But you just rejected and I saw it through the discussion that your rejection was without thought in spite of you have admin status and bureaucrat status.
I can suggest the same delegation again, if you explain to cacahuate on there why you don't agree with him, and if you start a campaign or something on en: to comply with the image policy.
Sorry, I don't understand what you are saying at all. The pub discussion is about images uploaded without a license by users we cannot contact. For my images, you know perfectly well that they are and have always been GFDL+CC by-sa-all, so it's just bakabakashii to label them "Don't know". You do know! Jpatokal 03:18, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
Yes, I know very well that you are licensing your images under dual license and I also think it's bakabakashii for you and me. But, on the other hand, I know that image policy requires the uploaders to add copyright information to image pages; year of copyright, name of copyright owner, license. It's not saying to put a license on user page, so I regard your way as a violation of the policy. The reason why I ask you the delegation is to make it a special/rare exception since the policy also says that It is not anyone else's job to chase down copyright info on an image.. Thus this type of effort should not be done generally because it may aggravate ignoring the policy. Since I'd like to avoid disturbing community order, I cannot tag a license without the delegation and your two cooperations as I said above. -- Tatata 04:52, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
Or please check and fix all your uploads[4] by yourself since it's not our problem but yours; this is reasonable way and is happy for all other contributors including me! :-) -- Tatata 02:00, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
So how about you don't touch my images, and I "fix" the uploads when I feel like doing so? Jpatokal 03:18, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
I'll keep doing as usual when I find a image without license and you can leave them as they are. I think you have enough time to fix them until they are added to VFD page. Please consider who is ignoring the policy and who is violating the policy... -- Tatata 04:52, 10 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Thanks!

Thanks for all of your recent hard work sorting out categories, image licensing, etc... it's a lot of work, and you're doing a great job! – cacahuate talk 01:58, 9 August 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Re: Image:Butchart Gardens.jpg

Yes, that's the source. The language on WM Commons left me somewhat unclear as to whether the release there was really CCSA-"any," as I don't track closely what's going on with recent CCSA updates. In any event, I had to make some minor changes to the image to get it to fit here -- a bit of cropping, decreasing the resolution -- as otherwise the file was going to be far too large to use. Does that make it a "different" image for licensing purposes? I honestly don't know. What's your opinion? I certainly don't object to changing it to the "any" license if appropriate. -- Bill-on-the-Hill 10:09, 12 August 2007 (EDT)

I've made the suggested change. Thanks for pointing it out. -- Bill-on-the-Hill 11:48, 12 August 2007 (EDT)
Thank you and I'm sorry to bother you.
I'm very nervous about licensing tag now..., because of [5], [6], [7], etc. -- Tatata 12:50, 12 August 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Images

The images # Image:Arribes1.JPG

  1. Image:Almendra.JPG and Image:Santaengracia.JPG are of my work, I apply the liencia audience share alike i.0 for wiki travel, the images image:lisboaesc.JPg, Image:tranvia.JPG and Image:belem2 are the wikimedia commons, the rest of the images are of Internet, and if you can delete them. Pardon for my bad English. Dario

[edit] attribution

I always add attribution to any and all articles that I add. Because the last picture from Africa, would not view, I had d/l again, and probably the attribution slipped off or something.

next time I will check to make sure that the attribution remains in such a case as this. This is one thing that I always check first, that is adding attribution.

thanks for bringing it to my attention.

[edit] Awesome job

Nice work on all of the tagging & organizing you've been doing. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. -- Fastestdogever 17:43, 19 August 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Naxos images

In my opinion Image:Chora naxos naxo.jpg and Image:Saint prokopios be.jpg should be deleted. I was mistaken as user:Sapphire noticed me in my talk pages. Anyway, let me know your point of view, if different. Gobbler 21:36, 23 August 2007 (EDT)

No difference. Thanks. -- Tatata 22:00, 23 August 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Image:Flag of Malta.svg

Thank you for {{welcome}}. Would you be so kind and help me with the mentioned image, or show me to the page with solution of this issue. Thanks in advance. LukeWestwalker 08:57, 25 August 2007 (EDT)

Thank you for immediate answer. Sorry for ambigous message, I didn't mean category and I understand the policy you've mentioned. However if you look at the image of flag you can not see its preview. Moreover, you can read a message underneath: This is a lossless scalable vector image. Base size: 0 × 0 pixels.. That's the issue seems odd to me. Sorry again. LukeWestwalker 15:32, 25 August 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for accurate answer! This is exactly the point: with the same browser as you mentioned there's no preview icon, however I can see the actual .svg file. I agree that lack of icon may be caused by DNS problem, but I can do without the preview. The real problem that Image:Flag of Malta.svg can not be added to any article. It appears as link in the previous sentence. This means the uploaded file is useless, and I should upload another version of the file, in another file type (as svg is useless at the moment). Just confirm, please, that I am right, cause I am new here and wouldn't like to be misleaded. Thanks for your help till now. LukeWestwalker 10:32, 26 August 2007 (EDT)
Thank you for your guidelines. BTW I am great fan of svg as it makes crisp copies in any resolution. And it's useful for flags with inscriptions like the Maltese. As you confirmed my words the bug with svg is countering the policy I am going to write a word or two in the pub. LukeWestwalker 17:29, 27 August 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Copyright violation

Ciao Tatata, I'm really sorry for the mistake I have done. I was sure that the licence NC was compatible with Wikitravel (I've read the image policy but obviously I didn't notice this). I'll provide immediately to cancel them from the italian Wikitravel. Sorry for the trouble that I cause, it will not happen again. --Airin 14:39, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

Don't worry, you just did what you are supposed to do (and you are doing it very well). I'm looking for new pictures to replace the old ones. Now I know: no NC and no ND ;-) --Airin 12:23, 28 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] You are doing a fantastic job!!!

If I was standing next to you, I would give you a big pat on the back (better than a kiss). You seem to wade through these photo's in a calm, professional manner. Great job!!! 2old 16:40, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

I feel encouraged by your words. Thank you Mike! -- Tatata 22:20, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
I second that, the amount of work you're doing to get shared organized, categorized and legalized is astounding. Good work! – cacahuate talk 13:20, 17 October 2007 (EDT)

One is not enough! I third everything above. By the way, is your name simply a repeating of "ta", or is there a deeper meaning behind it? Cheers! -- Sapphire(Talk) • 15:47, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
Thank you cacahuate and Sapphire. I'm very glad since this is the first time I receive the barnstar; moreover two stars!! As to my account, I created this by taking my name in Kanji characters (Chinese characters) to pieces and putting together them, when I started contribution to ja wikipedia; as a result, it becomes a meaningless word in Japanese. So there is no deeper meaning behind it. :-) -- Tatata 23:59, 17 October 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Den Haag

Hello, Den Haag is the third city in The Netherlands, (in English The Hague). I can't find any page for photos of it. At the moment there are more pages about The Netherlands than there photos, so most of them are empty. It can be a smart thing to store then in the future by our 12 provinces is instead of something like 8 pages containing 200 names. I have to mention that i am fairly new to Wikitravel Shared --Rein N. 03:09, 22 October 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Holyrood Palace

Thanks for your help with the image - I wasn't sure how to credit it, and I couldn't figure out why the image was fine but the preview was half gray. (Not a good start on Shared, but hopefully it gets better from here...) WTDuck2 03:32, 23 October 2007 (EDT)

[edit] tag for unlicensed images in es:

Hi, I have seen your messages in my discussion page. Following the Shared version, I have created a similar template Cc-by-sa-1.0 for the Spanish version. I am not sure whether you want just to add such a tagfor my images or you want also to re-link the images in the ES pages to the images in shared (which makes sense, since they are now duplicated). Just let me know. Bye hwk

Thank you. I leave a message on your ES talk page. -- Tatata 00:00, 12 December 2007 (EST)

[edit] Golden Lady

Ugh. I know this image was marked CC when I uploaded it, because all the photos I get from Flickr are found through restricted searches and I double check during the upload process to check whether the image has the SA license or just the attribution requirement. So usually I would just vouch for the image and plan on removing it if the photographer raises objections.

But this is a special case. I just submitted this image to be a part of a collage on the upcoming WTP printed guide to Chicago. I really don't want there to be any possible objections over images on the cover! I'm going to look into this, see what Jani thinks, and possibly get in touch with the photographer. In any rate, thank you for bringing this to my attention. --Peter Talk 02:12, 12 December 2007 (EST)

[edit] Image:Seminyak Beach Resort.jpg

What's wrong with the license tag? GFDL and CC by-sa-all is what I usually use; in fact, I added the tag myself. Jpatokal 07:05, 1 February 2008 (EST)
