Hello! Welcome to Wikitravel Shared! If you want to specialize your experience you may want to consider editing your preferences. Before uploading please take a second to read over the copyleft, policies and guidelines, and the image policy but feel free to upload travel images. If you need help, check out the help desk, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub. -- Sapphire 16:39, 17 July 2006 (EDT)

That's cool! When and who created it? -- Sapphire 17:24, 17 July 2006 (EDT)
Myself...I started here on Shared in jan/feb (when it was born) creating meta pages, policies, guidelines...which I continue to do, gradually. Anyway, I realised we needed a template page...and now we have one, including templates. More to follow. :-) Riggwelter 17:36, 17 July 2006 (EDT)

[edit] Categories

So, first, nice job categorizing items on Wikitravel. One thing that's important to remember is that if a template has a category in it, any article that uses that template will have that category. If that's not what you want, you need to wrap the category stuff in "noinclude" tags, like <noinclude>[[Category:Foo]]</noinclude>. --Evan 17:16, 22 July 2006 (EDT)

Ah, so that's why. I knew I had overlooked something. Well, wiki markup/HTML is not my strong side. Riggwelter 17:40, 22 July 2006 (EDT)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for the welcome. I have stepped into Wikitravel Shared almost by chance. Earlier today (maybe, yesterday at many places) I was uploading some pictures for the English Wikitravel when Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) advised me to upload them to Wikitravel Shared and I am hee. -- P.K.Niyogi 07:29, 1 September 2006 (EDT)

[edit] Image:St Francis Cathedral.jpg

Thanks for trying to move my photo over from the en:Route 66 page, but please be aware that it's already on WT Shared, as Image:St Francis Cathedral Santa Fe.jpg. The name change has two origins: some bookkeeping as the main en:Santa Fe (New Mexico) article was being brought into DotM shape, and a desire to be more descriptive as to exactly where Saint Francis Cathedral is. (Note also that the license as you created the page is different from what I, who took the photo, specified on the other page.) The thought was good, but this can be speedy-deleted. -- Bill-on-the-Hill 00:52, 24 October 2006 (EDT)

Thanks Bill! I just deleted it. I did have a look around to see if I could find it, before uploading the image, but apparently I wasn't scrutinous enough. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. May I suggest that you swap the image on en: to the shared: version and suggest the en: version for deletion? It seems a bit unnecessary to have it on both sites. Riggwelter 04:15, 24 October 2006 (EDT)
I'll just delete it myself (I'm an admin on en:), good suggestion. There are a lot of these old images on en: that have been supplanted by Shared ones. It hasn't seemed urgent to get rid of them, but it can't hurt, and will reduce clutter. -- Bill-on-the-Hill 08:53, 24 October 2006 (EDT)

[edit] Removing Uploaded Photos

Greetings, I am trying to figure out how to delete uploaded photos.. I didn't review the policy well enough and I uploaded information that should not be posted. Thanks! (Cupcakecommander)

[edit] Uploading

Hey, since you've been doing a lot of uploading I wanted to ask you a favor. Before you add any information about an image in the "Summary" boxes would you please click in the Summary box, then scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click on the "Image Credit" template. This will automagically import the template into the Summary box. To use the template simply fill out all of the values. When you use the "Location=" value simply type in the the name of the place the image was taken, don't link to the page. Jani edited the template which reads the input and automagically turns what you type into a link and categorizes the image. Thanks. -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 06:44, 11 January 2007 (EST)

Does the Location link work interwiki-wise - i.e. is it automatically linked to the correct language version of WT? Riggwelter 15:36, 14 January 2007 (EST)
No, it only links to the correct category on Wikitravel Shared. If you look at Image:Singapore-overview.png you'll see that I typed location=Singapore, which produced a link that linked to Category:Singapore. -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 12:29, 15 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] username changes

If it's not already on your watchlist can you add Requests for username change? Not that it sees that much traffic, but you're the ideal candidate to deal with them  :) – cacahuate talk 04:09, 7 September 2007 (EDT)

The page is added since he day I realised I had been given bureaucrat rights... but you're right, it should be a thing for me to look at :-) Riggwelter 09:43, 20 September 2007 (EDT)
