Template talk:Copyrighted free use
From Wikitravel Shared
[edit] Is this needed?
My understanding is that this template is commonly used on the Japanese Wikipedia because Japanese law does not define/allow "public domain". However, Wikitravel Shared is governed by California law, and thus we should be able to use "real" PD instead, making this obsolete. Jpatokal 10:14, 18 December 2007 (EST)
- I think, as you say, I can tag my own images PD on WT severs despite the fact that I'm a Japanese. But I think we had better tag similar to sources (original uploads), when we are not the original creator. As to the maps of Japan case, source data of maps is hosted on server in Japan and commons people start to change tag from "PD" to "Copyrighted free use" as a result of contact with data owner.(written in ja) I think we should maintain this template since it is already used for images from other country.[1] [2] -- Tatata 21:21, 18 December 2007 (EST)
