Wikitravel Research Widget (Off-site syndicated widget)

This widget would allow travelers to embed a Wikitravel research widget on their iGoogle home page, facebook profile, personal blog, etc. The widget would give users the ability to search for a destinations and view a condensed version of the guide (images will be removed for readability). We'll provide links back to the complete guide on Wikitravel.org. We could also add the ability for users to default the display to a specific page or guide.

I'm not sure I see a huge amount of value in this. Jpatokal 23:49, 18 September 2007 (EDT)
Wikitravel will get value in a couple ways from these widgets. Naturally it will spread the word and invite more people to join the community. It will also provide in-links from other sites, blogs, etc., which help Wikitravel with regard to search rank. Naturally, this too increases readership and potential contribution for the site. I think they're a pretty good idea, they certainly couldn't hurt... I have a Wikipedia one on my Mac's dashboard, it's moderately useful and saves navigating through the main WP page and searching for what I want there. A simple "I'm a Wikitraveler" one that links to a user's homepage would be cool too for Facebook, etc... – cacahuate talk 15:09, 23 October 2007 (EDT)
