Tech:Strikethrough for diff considered harmful

From Wikitravel Shared
Jump to: navigation, search

What happens[edit]

After the recent Mediawiki upgrade, diff now shows the changed parts with strikethrough and underline instead of coloring them. I find this ungood on any language version, and positively harmful for Japanese where there are oodles of horizontal strokes (二 is "2", is a struck-out "1"). Sample: try to find the change in this diff. Jpatokal 07:04, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

How to fix it[edit]

Go back to the old style? Jpatokal 07:04, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

I have to say I'd support going back to the old style as well. It's not nearly as easy to spot differences, especially on ja:, but on other versions as well, particularly when the changes are punctuation and formatting. Texugo 19:35, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

OK, I'll see what I can do. --Evan 08:30, 4 July 2007 (EDT)
Me 3, I found the previous way much easier to spot and read – cacahuate talk 01:55, 15 July 2007 (EDT)

Except of course if your browser is using its own colour scheme, in which case strikethrough has the merit of at least being visible. --87.113.22.24 05:14, 23 October 2007 (EDT)
You know, this problem is not <s> tag nor <del> tag, but how to show differences between edits (versions in history of an article). -- Tatata 00:26, 24 October 2007 (EDT)

Okay, I a shot at it and put it up on review. The problem is I'm not 100% sure what "before" looked like so I'm flying a bit blind. Could somebody please take a look at what's there and let me know? Thanks KevinSours 16:27, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
Yes, that's great! --Peter Talk 20:22, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
okay, moved to live KevinSours 12:40, 21 March 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, great! I think that looks a lot like what it used to... instead of strikethrough the altered text was highlighted in RED... MUCH MUCH better and easier to see! Nice work Kevin – cacahuate talk 15:59, 21 March 2008 (EDT)
Yay! Glad to see this is finally fixed. Jpatokal 05:12, 22 March 2008 (EDT)
