Tech:Prevent page creation

Description[edit]

I would love to see a new admin superpower that would allow us to prevent the creation of a given page title. For example, on es: a spambot with variable IP has created the page Budapest-test 37 times, and 37 times we have had to delete it. Lately it is getting created and deleted almost every day. Currently the only other option would be to let the page stand, blank the page, and protect it. Wouldn't it be nicer to have the equivalent of the protect function for pages that do not (and should not) exist? Texugo

I think it's nice! Wikipedia uses Title Blacklist extension to prevent creating those pages. But unfortunately, the extension requires MediaWiki 1.12.0 or above while Wikitravel is using MediaWiki 1.11.2 now.
I guess it's time to upgrade to new version (MediaWiki 1.14.0 ?). If 1.13.0 or above, we can also use hidden categories for status rating. -- Tatata 05:10, 31 May 2009 (EDT)
