Tech:Listing-foo-attr doesn't work with translations

From Wikitravel Shared

What happens[edit]

It seems that the listing-foo-attr variables do not work unless they are in English, however the listing-foo-tag variable works in either German or English is there a work around for that? You can see de:Benutzer:Sapphire/Sandbox#Test to see what I'm talking about. I've restore listing-address-attr to its original form, however, if you look at directions or "richtungen" it falls apart. -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 12:06, 20 August 2006 (EDT)

When it happens[edit]

What should happen[edit]

The listings should work with German instead of English. I.e. I should get the same response as using "hours" as I would with "geöffnet."). -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 21:23, 20 August 2006 (EDT)

Nonono! Why, oh why, are you localizing the listing tags!?!? This is metadata, it should never be even exposed to humans. The tags should be the same across all Wikitravel language versions, so they can be parsed with the same tools, and the only pretty wizard interfaces used by users to edit them should be localized. Well, where's the fun in that? -- Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 09:38, 23 August 2006 (EDT)
You're free to wear hair shirts, sprinkle ash on your head and flagellate yourself all you like, but that's not my definition of "fun"... Jpatokal 13:07, 23 August 2006 (EDT)
