Tech:EditListing script fails on non-ASCII characters in some fields

From Wikitravel Shared

Jump to: navigation, search

[edit] What happens / When it happens

The editListing javascript function fails with the error message "Listing has been changed by somebody else. Please reload the page and reedit" with non-ASCII characters in the "alt" field. The same entries become editable again solely by removing the non-ASCII portion of that field.

[edit] When it happens

Whenever using the edit script on affected entries. Current example: en:Okayama#See - the first two entries are uneditable at this time, while the remainder of the See entries (none of which have non-ASCII text in alt) are editable as normal.

[edit] What should happen

Edit popup should operate with all accepted character sets.

[edit] How to fix it

[edit] Additional comments

Identified at en:Talk:Okayama#Technical_Problem. I have not tested fields besides alt.

We hope this will be fixed through an upgrade on mediawiki, which should happen this year. Ibsteph 4:41 pm,18 February, 2010
