[edit] Additional comments

For some reason this is turned off by the custom extension that does our caching. The comment there indicates that it was done "just to make sure" since some other global setting appear to have caused unspecified problems. I don't see any reason why this would cause serious problems so I've turned it on on review.

I also just talked to some people here and if we do enable this on the live version we need to lock it down to admin only access. Its possible for a malicious user to make the entire site completely unviewable (to the point where a typically user would not be able to revert changes) by editing the css. There is also the potential to vector malicious javascript to some browsers. KevinSours 15:36, 27 August 2008 (EDT)

Actually this might already be the case KevinSours 15:37, 27 August 2008 (EDT)

As far as i know a editing of any MediaWiki item (including MediaWiki:Common.css) already restricted to admin only access. What exactly you want to lock down? -- Sergey kudryavtsev 16:08, 27 August 2008 (EDT)
Just MediaWiki:Common.css. Sounds like that should be fine. KevinSours 16:15, 27 August 2008 (EDT)
