would it not be a good idea to have user accounts enabled so that they can be used for all language pages of wikitravel, for example, I wanted to start, a wikitravel page in French for East Sussex, but I would have to sign up to a new account in the French wikitravel rather than just log in with my original name - could this be fixed or at least allow users the option to have multiple language signups.
I image this could be a great problem in say Canada, where there are two language spoken

- Have you tried logging in using OpenID? Does is address the problem you're talking about? Thanks.JuCo 15:43, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
- Evan mentioned a year or so ago that he had found a way to merge all of the databases of various language versions so that the wouldn't even require open ID, but was just working on a way to resolve the few conflicts that it would pose... I'm unsure or what the relationship is between the tech team and him at the moment, but it may be worth asking if that's still an option or if it would be insanely difficult – cacahuate talk 22:31, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
- Wikimedia is working on merging databases of all of their various projects, so that users can sign in to any of them with 1 user name, without creating accounts on each. I know nothing of what that takes behind the scenes, but if anyone's interested in inquiring what it would take to merge our language version databases, they could start here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Unified_login – cacahuate talk 19:50, 29 March 2008 (EDT)
