Tech:"Broken" shared:/special: redirects

What happens[edit]

en:Special:BrokenRedirects is listing some (currently 7 10) shared:/special: redirects - I mentioned it yesterday at en:Wikitravel:Travellers' pub#"Broken" shared:/special: redirects but nobody has chimed in with any suggestions, so I'm guessing it needs to be reported here as a bug. ~ 203.147.0.48 13:50, 9 September 2007 (EDT)

And en:Special:DoubleRedirects is now showing a similar issue. ~ 202.71.45.37 07:55, 14 October 2007 (EDT)

In each case, a redirect page is listed, indicating that there's a problem with the redirect; however, in each case, the redirect points straight to a valid :shared or :special page and works fine.

When it happens[edit]

All the time. See en:Special:BrokenRedirects and en:Special:DoubleRedirects to check if it's still happening.

What should happen[edit]

These specialpages should ignore soft redirects (redirects to "off-site" pages (off-site, as in "on a different Wikitravel language version"), as soft redirects are neither broken nor doubled. --Peter Talk 02:58, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

Is this really a problem? In fact I don't think it should be fixed, I like that you have to click the link, it makes it obvious that you're heading to a different site/version – cacahuate talk 03:34, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
The problem isn't that soft redirects require an extra click, it's that soft redirects should not be displayed at special:brokenredirects and special:doubleredirects. Since we have lots of soft redirects, this problem makes these two specialpages effectively useless. This should not be high priority, though. --Peter Talk 03:48, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
