[edit] Ponce
Hi. I hope you guys enjoy PR; my wife and I were there in '05 and really did. To get to Ponce, the easiest way is to rent a car. Not necessarily the only way, but way easier than other ways, especially for multiple people. To quote en:Puerto Rico (written by someone else), "Unless you are staying in one of the hotels in San Juan, or you have friends or family to provide transportation, you will need to rent a car." --Jonboy 21:46, 13 March 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks for the info. I think Ponce was just an idea of a mid-week destination, though I think now that there might be better options. Renting a car is good advice -- Evan & will be getting one. It would be great for folks to explore transportation alternatives though! Maj 12:51, 24 March 2007 (EDT)
[edit] "Home base"
Unless there's some objection, we're planning to use our hotel -- the Howard Johnson Inn Plaza de Armas Old San Juan as a meetup spot. They have rooms available starting at $95 (about as cheap as you can find in the Old Town). Alternatively, there are 2 rooms in Candado at Casa del Carib[1] for $75 each (send me mail if you're interested in these). Other places seem to have filled up fast. The Small Hotels site[2] has a few options you can try (and interesting suggestions for outside of San Juan too). Folks should add where they're staying to the sign-up sheet. - I'm getting all full for HoJo on the weekend of Apr 13-16. Later in the week there's still some availability. Jpatokal 02:28, 25 March 2007 (EDT)
- I'm starting a page for accomodation information Get-together/Accomodations. I'll dump all the available SJ hotel info I have and it would be great if other folks could find out about other destinations. Maj 12:39, 25 March 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Tour de ile?
So I'm looking at the map of PR and throwing towns at Google Maps and it looks like it would be fun and easy-ish to Drive from San Juan to Ponce for a day (1 1/2 hours) then circle round to Rincon and back to SJ (another 1 1/2 hours) with plenty of time to explore along the way. One upside to spending more time out of San Juan is that hotels look cheaper by $20-40. Other desintions we should try to hit include en:Arecibo and en:Culebra. I'll keep playing with maps and report back. Maj 13:10, 24 March 2007 (EDT)
- Ok, I PFed and added a kinda action-packed route to see as much as possible in 1 week. I'm pretty sure we can't hit both the West coast (ie Rincon etc) and get out to Culebra, but the island seems to have a lot of stuff near by on the mainland to see coming and going, plus Jani and others may need to get back to SJ sooner than some. I'm wavering on the need to go to en:Ponce, maybe we should just cut that out and focus on the East coast? Maj 15:11, 25 March 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Wrap up meeting
I moved the wrap up meeting a day earlier so we can have Jani there. Any objections? -- Sapphire • (Talk) • 11:05, 2 April 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Ferries
Hey, Sapphire, where are you getting your info about ferries? You've removed two links (e.g. to culebra ) and I was just wondering if you could let us know where you're getting more updated info. Is everything on that page out of date (ie airline numbers, all the ferries, taxis & public transportation etc)? According to the author, it was current 4 months ago... Thanks! 207.134.56.158 07:40, 12 April 2007 (EDT)
- Don't know how I manage to delete the link you noted there (or why), but the link I removed about the hi-speed ferry was because the Puerto Rico Tourism Company told me service was discontinued. The other thing was for that ferry the phone number they give to reserve a place on the ferry has been discontinued. That's only the ferry from SJ, not the ones operating from Fajardo. -- Sapphire • (Talk) • 11:02, 12 April 2007 (EDT)
