[edit] IS IT POSSIBLE TO START A CHINESE VERSION EXPEDITION?
Swept in from the Wikitravel:Travellers' pub:
Thinking about it.. Liujg 04:06, 3 Nov 2005 (EST)
- Wikitravel:Chinese Wikitravel Expedition is the right place to start. Please also translate the Expedition into Chinese. 加油! Jpatokal 04:48, 3 Nov 2005 (EST)
[edit] Dialect
Is there an issue about which Chinese dialect we're going to use, here? Aren't there significant differences in the ideograms for Mandarin and Cantonese, for example? --Evan 16:52, 11 Nov 2005 (EST)
- To give a very simplified answer, written Chinese is universal and basically Mandarin. But we'll need to set up the traditional<->simplified character automatic converter engine they've got set up in Wikipedia. Jpatokal 01:27, 23 Nov 2005 (EST)
维基旅游是不是更好?--210.72.12.70 01:11, 23 Nov 2005 (EST)
- 太好了。Jpatokal 01:27, 23 Nov 2005 (EST)
- Is there a language you don't speak? --Evan 00:28, 9 April 2006 (EDT)
- Well, my Tamil is still a little flaky, but I was planning on doing something about that later this year...
- And the above anon was asking if "维基旅游" (pron. Wéijīlǚyóu, but literally "Wiki-travel") would be a good translation in Chinese, and I think it is. Jpatokal 01:01, 9 April 2006 (EDT)
Hi all, just signed up and hope I can do something for it.-Fujiaxi 07:36, 21 April 2006 (EDT)
- How about 维基导游? Caiguanhao 08:19, 5 July 2007 (EDT)
- The Chinese phrase 旅行 is appearance as verb to English is "trip", 旅遊 is noun, good, clear and blantat. For Simp/Trad convertions, can set as "zh-CN=旅游;zh-TW旅遊"219.68.144.111 02:17, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Go go go
So, I want to get this site launched. We have 6 users signed up. We just need a) someone to step forward as go-between and b) a sign that the language file isn't completely broken. Is there someone willing to take these steps and get this site launched? --Evan 00:28, 9 April 2006 (EDT)
- Evan, you've gotta get this launched before Wikimania in Taipei! Recruiting people there should be trivial. Jpatokal 13:42, 10 July 2007 (EDT)
- OK, so, can you be the go-between (provisional), until the site is ready to go? I can set it up really quickly. --Evan 10:31, 17 July 2007 (EDT)
- 好了。加油!速速! So I can keep a sanity watch over the site, but my Chinese is waaaaaaaaay too bad to do this for very long... Jpatokal 12:51, 17 July 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Status?
Evan, when I talked to you at Wikimania, the status of the Chinese version was that the basics were set up but you were having problems getting the simplified/traditional stuff running. Any progress? Should we try to eg. recruit somebody from Wikipedia to help out? Jpatokal 01:37, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Launched!?
Did somebody just quietly launch the Chinese version!? There's a barebones Chinese version here now, and zh-cn/tw/sg/hk switching seems to work as well: http://wikitravel.org/zh/ Jpatokal 22:08, 3 December 2007 (EST)
- Funk it. It looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, so I'm going to boot it out into the lake and hope it swims. Jpatokal 03:42, 9 January 2008 (EST)
- Well, that was quite the bellyflop. Let's try once more: I've spammed out invites to all who signed up and had a mail address registered. Jpatokal 08:54, 14 January 2008 (EST)
- Can anyone else not get the Chinese version when you type in http://www.wikitravel.org/zh? -- Sapphire • (Talk) • 12:53, 15 January 2008 (EST)
- Same here, you need to add the slash at the end. I think we need a redirect... Jpatokal 13:26, 15 January 2008 (EST)
- I've asked Kevin to fix it. And nobody knows you're a moron because you did the revert anonymously =P Jpatokal 00:06, 16 January 2008 (EST)
- So where do we start from here? Jpatokal, I've received your email sorry for being late --Yvonnepang 22:41, 24 March 2008 (EDT)
- Just go to http://wikitravel.org/zh/ and start working! Jpatokal 03:47, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
