Japanese Wikitravel Report for 5 January 2007
From Wikitravel Shared
開けましておめでとうございます。今年も宜しくお願いします。
- "Opening, you question with the め, it is. This year we ask may." --Babelfish
...or, less cryptically, happy new year and best regards for the coming year.
[edit] Progress
[edit] Progress in general
ja-wikitravel has sprouted some 300 articles since I last wrote about it back in October 2006, and continues on its trajectory of slow, steady growth, nibbling at the heels of fr: but left in the dust by the rocketlike growth of it:. Some bits of Japan have been fleshed out in impressive detail, but coverage remains patchy and finding truly complete articles to showcase monthly remains a bit of a challenge.
[edit] Focus
The central guidelines have long since been translated and now the focus is just on writing more and better articles.
[edit] New contributors
ja: has acquired a few new regulars, but the count of registered users is rather low compared to other versions of the same size. This is probably in no small part due to the cumbersome and fiddly template-based entry system, and I'm not the only one looking forward to the day when it can be ditched in favor of a more user-friendly wizard.
[edit] Special issues
See above. And the Japanese categories mess would be nice to sort out fairly soon.
[edit] Conclusion
That's all.
