Finnish Wikitravel Expedition

Rationale The primary goal is to provide travel guides in the Finnish language, since many Finns are more comfortable with their own language. It's a small country, but Finns are a well-traveled bunch and there are quite a few Finnish contributors already. In addition, the Swedes have one too so, in the spirit of friendly Nordic competition, the Finns must have a bigger and better one. Goals This Expedition has the following goals: To collect a good base of Finnish-speaking users willing to take this project further. To choose a go-between who can keep users on the English-language site up-to-date on developments on Finnish Wikitravel, and vice-versa To translate the interface files for Wikitravel into Finnish To launch the new Finnish-language Wikitravel. To translate the pages and create the infrastructure necessary to make Finnish Wikitravel useful and friendly for new Finnish-speaking contributors. To make Finnish Wikitravel an integrated part of the Wikitravel family. Choosing a go-between In order to make a successful, integrated Finnish Wikitravel, we need to choose one of the three users who put their names down, and make them a go-between. The role of the go-between will be to act as a liaison between English and Finnish Wikitravel, and therefore, he must be able to: Write Finnish and English well Understand Wikitravel ideals, guidelines, goals and policies Make monthly reports about Finnish Wikitravel to English Wikitravel Make monthly reports about English Wikitravel to Finnish Wikitravel Contribute actively in Finnish Wikitravel The go-between will be chosen by voting. The candidates for go-between will be the users willing to contribute. To win, a go-between must have two votes for them, and no votes against them. Only people who nominated themselves under the "Gathering a team" section can vote. And remember, you cannot vote for yourself. Interface files The language interface file for Finnish is at en:Wikitravel:LanguageFi.php. It's started with the Wikipedia Finnish language file; it needs to be customized to work for Wikitravel. Compare en:Wikitravel:Language.php for the changes needed for English Wikitravel. The main changes needed are the name of the site (Wikipedia -> Wikitravel), the name and link to the license, and the names of some important pages.
