Clayton Park Recreational Area (Clayton Park) is a seasonal campground, rv park and boat launch providing the public with opportunities for memorable outdoor experiences on beautiful Lake Henry. This campground has been in the Swoyer family since the 1920's, known for many years as Swoyer's Landing and Swoyer's Grove. The campground began as a humble boat livery and over the years expanded to include camping, pavilion rentals and fishing tournaments. Clayton and Mildred Swoyer began with one building, offering wooden rowboat rentals. Eventually David L and Florence Swoyer developed the park to include camping and pavilion rentals.
Currently, Clayton Park offers ameneties ranging from full service hookups to primitive tent sites. Campstore, restrooms, showers, laundry rooms and wi fi access are provided.
This campground is about camping, fishing and boating, pure and simple. If you are looking for a place to enjoy a peaceful setting and the great outdoors, then this is the place for you. If you are looking for a resort like setting, this is probably not the place for you.
Clayton Park offers various activities throughout the summers and is particularly delighted to offer weekend campfire music provided by local musicians.
Lake Henry is a 450 acre lake located in Wayne County, home to more lakes than any other county in the state. Sport fish including large and small mouth bass, pickerel, catfish and panfish live in these waters. You can launch your own boat or rent a boat for the day.
The shores of Lake Henry are a great place to enjoy the best of nature. Many forms of wildlife regularly visit the area, including bald eagles. There are plenty of places to birdwatch, walk and bike throughout the park, while the Varden Conservation Area has additional trails only 5 minutes away.
Many people visit the local historic landmarks nearby while staying at Clayton Park. Railroad history is deep here. Steamtown National Historic Site and Electric City Trolley Museum are located only 20 minutes away in Scranton. http://wikitravel.org/en/Scranton Only 30 minutes away in Honesdale, the Stourbridge Line offers rail excursions as well.
