THOPPUTHURAI.

This place is at the South end of Nagapattinam Dist. and between the East Coast road of Vedaranyam-Nagapattinam around 23 k.m. Radius. Vedaranyam (Thirumaraikadu) town falls under Panchayat. Of the people 60% are Hindus and people of other religion live in near by villages around this place. Here Hindus, Muslims and other religious people live together and this place can be sited as an example of unity among people of different community.

Thopputhurai is a village near seashore. The name gives that this place has lot of plantation and harbor. From this village a salt lake mixes with the after running a distance of 4 k.m. So in the early days people use to trade using catamarans to board their goods in to steamers whereby they trade with Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and other South East Asian countries.

The modern world Thopputhurai 90% of the house has telephone connection. Indian telecom has now plans of providing Internet Services.

The Thopputhurai People getting medical assistants are available in Vedaranyam. Near by districts like Nagapattinam, Tanjore are getting this facility.

In Thopputhurai Hindus have many Temples. One of the Grand Temple is a century old. Muslims has built their mosque for praying.
