Shimla is the capital of the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. Sitting majestically above the searing plains, the British designated the town as the summer capital of India. The Victorian-style higher levels of the town reflect this British connection and the historic Mall is a traffic free zone, while the lower slopes are occupied with Indian bazaars and restaurants specializing in delicious local cuisine. Berneray is an island in the Outer Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland. It is joined to larger North Uist by a short double-track road causeway. Berneray is perhaps best known for its beaches. The famous west beach is a three mile unspoiled, deserted crescent of sand. The east beach, adjoining the Youth Hostel, is also spectacular. (more...)

US passport reprieve

Due to massive backlogs, Homeland Security has announced that Americans who have applied for passports may travel to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean with only photo ID until September 30, 2007. (more...)

Protests in Venezuela

Protests against the Venezuelan government's move to censor a media outlet have turned violent in Caracas. Exercise caution throughout Venezuela and avoid any demonstrations. Purple People Bridge Climb closes

The Purple People Bridge Climb, the only operation allowing the public to climb across a bridge in the Northern Hemisphere, has closed. The climb crossed the top of the Purple People Bridge, which connects Cincinnati with Newport, Kentucky. (more...)
