The country of Yugoslavia broke up after civil war during the 1990's. It now consists of the following countries:

After the First World War ended in 1918, Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, Macedonians, Montenegrians and Slovenes formed a new nation, called the "Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes". The country was renamed Yugoslavia in 1929 (meaning "Land of Southern Slavs") and after that "the Federal Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia" in 1945. Dissatisfaction with centralized rule from Belgrade and the national tensions of the republic majorities, lead to a civil war and the bloody breakup of the country during the last decade of the twentieth century.
