Wujiaochang shopping center (Now known as Wanda Plaza) is the favorite entertainment spot for university students and a crowd of locals from the northern part of town. A good selection of Chinese, chain, and foreign restaurants are there. There is also a Wal-Mart and a movie theater.

• A small and suspicious-looking alleyway off Wudong Lu, near the Fudan north campus, is alive with friendly street food vendors nearly any time of day. They move out to Fudan's north gate after 9:30pm. Delicious and extremely cheap.

If you spend much time in the area (as most foreign students will), you can't miss at least one glance inside Banana Bar on Handan Lu, near Fudan's east gate. It's an experience, at the very least, and packed with locals.
