The town is open, and tourism is encouraged. Although all property in the town is owned by the military, land is leased by commercial enterprises, and shops and accommodation are available.
The town site is about 6km off the A87 Stuart Highway, 440km northbound from Port Augusta. Turn off at the Pimba roadhouse onto highway B97. Access is well signed. Those who have arrived in the area by flying to Olympic Dam airport can drive from the other end of the B97 highway through Roxby Downs.
There are several geocache sites around the town and just outside it. You can drive out and look at the town garbage dump, or sewage treatment plant. There is a small museum inside the visitors center, small admission fee.
The visitor's center has a small gift shop with a few decent offerings. Worth a look.
There is a small but modern cafeteria in the visitor's center with a wide range of decent offering at reasonable prices considering the remoteness. Across the street is a small supermarket.
Eldo Hotel is in Woomera, with decent barrack style accommodations around $130 per night. Also a caravan park on the outskirts. The Spud's Roadhouse at the Pimba intersection with the Stuart Highway 6km away has motel style accommodation for $120.00 per night.
