Wikitravel talk:LanguageJa.php

From Wikitravel

Jump to: navigation, search

Be careful with this -- LanguageJa.php is a direct import from the Japanese Wikipedia, and it should be cross-referenced to the English Wikitravel language file (available here). Jpatokal 01:40, 31 Mar 2005 (EST)

It seems that the safest thing to do then is start with a fresh LanguageJa.php, copied in full from LanguageEn.php. -- Paul Richter 01:53, 31 Mar 2005 (EST)
You might want to check with Evan that the current LanguageEn is indeed the latest as it seems to date from 5 Feb 2004, ie. before the MediaWiki upgrades.
Also, LanguageJa.php (the Wikipedia version) imports a "LanguageUtf8.php", is this a standard MediaWiki file? I'm expecting quite a few bugs to crawl out of the woodwork when the first non-Latin Wikitravel version is launched. Jpatokal 02:24, 31 Mar 2005 (EST)
I see that "LanguageUtf8.php" is included in Wikitravel:LanguageRo.php. It seems that all the other non-English language versions are from a base file which is different from both Wikitravel:LanguageJa.php and Wikitravel:LanguageEn.php. Perhaps we'll have to translate from French/German/(Swedish/Romanian??) to Japanese?! -- Paul Richter 02:30, 25 Apr 2005 (EDT)
It seems like "LanguageUtf8.php" will needed only when translasion uses UTF-8 code. (see "General considerations" section of http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_i18n ) so I think we can leave it on Wikitravel:LanguageJa.php. -- User:Ado 15:45, 25 Apr 2005 (EDT)
This file, and the English one, are the up-to-date versions we use on this site. I think I'm also going to need a word meaning "Wikitravel", unless it's OK to leave it in romanji. --Evan 08:53, 8 Jun 2005 (EDT)
" ウィキトラベル ". But what do you want to use this for? Note that at least ja-wikipedia still uses "Wikipedia" and "Template" (in romaji) as the namespaces. Jpatokal 09:09, 8 Jun 2005 (EDT)
I was just trying to think of other translation stuff that isn't in the language file. The "site name" is set in a configuration file. It's up to you guys to decide if you want the site name to be in romanji or hiragana. I don't have a horse in that race, but you do need to let me know. --Evan 09:19, 8 Jun 2005 (EDT)
