A scheduled upgrade of the MediaWiki software we use for Wikitravel is going to happen on April 6, 2004 at 5AM GMT. That's about midnight in eastern North America, and... uh... (checking Time zones here) suppertime in Australasia. The site should be up read-only during the upgrade.
(Note: this is a re-rescheduled upgrade; some technical problems made the earlier date infeasible.)

A You are here locator on each page has been launched on the Romanian Wikitravel. The locator is a green box (Sunteţi aici in Romanian) which tells people which country, region, etc. their destination is, with links, helping categorize destinations more. This helps travellers quite a lot, especially since there is debate on concepts such as the hierarchy of the Europe articles. Users of the French and English Wikitravel are free to use this "location box" on the other Wikitravels or to make changes to it and add functionality. An example of the locator can be found on the Bucharest page in Romanian.
(NOTE: There's a plan to build this kind of bread-crumb trail into the Wikitravel software, so hard-coding it into pages won't be necessary. Adding these locators into pages will mean that they have to be removed later. --Evan)

Style, Naming, Search, and Help wanted are now partially or fully translated to French, and subpages are being written. The French Wikitravel has 178 articles, the latest being Lausanne, and a new admin, Yann. Having admins on two continents will make the French Wikitravel more responsive to problems that may arise at any time of day.
