Wikitravel:Links from Wikipedia
From Wikitravel
Special templates have been written for easy linking from Wikipedia to Wikitravel articles. Note that Wikitravel is not a Wikimedia project, so it doesn't get the pretty logo box like Wikiquote etc, just an ordinary link in the External links section.
[edit] Same article name
If the Wikipedia and Wikitravel articles have the same name, just add a line
*{{wikitravel}}
to the External links section. For example, on Wikipedia's page for Brasília, this will add a line which reads
* Brasília travel guide from Wikitravel
The recommended position is immediately after the official home page for the destination (if any).
[edit] Different article name
If the Wikipedia and Wikitravel articles have different names, add a parameter to indicate this:
*{{wikitravel|ARTICLENAME}}
where ARTICLENAME is the name of the article on Wikitravel.
For example, to link from Wikipedia's Nagano Prefecture to Wikitravel's Nagano (prefecture), type
*{{wikitravel|Nagano (prefecture)}}
Or to link from Wikipedia's Detroit, Michigan to Wikitravel's Detroit, type
*{{wikitravel|Detroit}}
[edit] Interwiki alternative
You can also use the Interwiki linking mechanism built into MediaWiki. The Interwiki prefix WikiTravel: will usually make a link to English-language Wikitravel from any Wikimedia site, and many other wikis.
[edit] Respect
On a final note: our relationship with Wikipedia is important to us (see: Cooperating with Wikipedia). Aggressive, inappropriate, or exploitative linking will reflect poorly on the entire Wikitravel project. As a rule of thumb, only add a link from Wikipedia if the Wikitravel article has an article status of "usable" or higher.
