The Collaboration of the Week is an opportunity to highlight a specific Wikitravel article that needs improvement in some way. While anyone can edit any article at any time, the Collaboration of the Week provides a way to highlight a single article allowing many contributors to help improve it together.

  • Kathmandu
    • A major stop for travelers in South Asia. Currently, the article has lots of info, even a map, but needs some effort to tighten and pull it into shape. WindHorse 23:39, 25 June 2007 (EDT)

  • Edmonton
    • A ton of great information that's strong in ways a lot of articles are weak (especially a terrific range of restaurants), but the sections aren't MoS and it's a bit disorganized. [edit] Nominating

You can nominate an article you would like to see as Collaboration of the week. Please follow the following guidelines.

  • The nominated article should have an article status of usable. The idea is that a usable article is more likely to have sufficient stuff for people to whip into shape. Many articles listed in Articles needing attention fall in this category.
  • You should mention at least five (5) ways in which to improve the article. This requirement will provide a roadmap for the effort and act as a barrier to nominating something that can be easily fixed. Some things you could suggest:
    • manual of style cleanup;
    • missing maps or photographs;
    • needs to be split into districts; (if there's already a consensus on how to split)
    • some major attractions that are missing; or
    • some sections which need more entries.
  • The destination should be interesting in some way. A destination that needs to get ready for an upcoming event will get preference. Other things that might make it interesting include:
    • it is popular with tourists;
    • it is earth shatteringly beautiful;
    • it is in a region with comparatively poor Wikitravel coverage (eg Africa); or
    • it is in a region from which there have been comparatively few Previous Destinations of the month.
  • Where possible, provide links to some reliable third party sites for researchers to use (such as the official local tourism site).
  • If an article meets the criteria above, add it to the "Upcoming" queue. There is no need for a discussion to select an article just for a week. Displace another article only if your nominee has to get into shape for something that can't wait. In that case, move everything in the queue down by one place. If it does not meet the other two criteria, feel free to simply replace the article.
  • Don't let the "Upcoming" queue have more than four articles.
  • Do not displace the current article after the week has started.

    • One of 8 host cities for Euro 2008 in June/July 2008 - need to get into tip top shape by then. (The keen eyed amongst you might notice a pattern coming!)
    • Needs photos, map.
    • The whole thing needs converting to listings (which will smooth out any MoS issues, of which there are a few.)
    • Needs more sleep, eat and drink listings.
    • The get around section needs developing.
  • Barcelona -- Tim (writeme!) 15:52, 2 July 2007 (EDT)
    • Plenty of info, that needs to be converted to listings
    • Needs info to be put into correct districts
    • See/Do need addresses, phone numbers, directions
    • Eat/Drink needs contact details
    • Needs a street map and a metro map.
    • Needs photos of a few more of the larger attractions (Sagrada Famillia, Placa Real etc) - shouldn't be too hard to come by if we don't have any in Shared
    • Needs climate info (and the new temperature template!)
    • Cope needs more info, see Time Out is not good enough!
    • Need information of the best way to reach the destinations in get out
    • Contact needs more information about internet cafes, big post offices etc
  • São Paulo - lots of information, listings
    • Some bits of info are in the wrong place
    • Districts need rethinking and then listings need to be placed in them
    • Needs a map and some photos

  • Beylaqan city - located in southern Azerbaijan, with friendly people:
    • The page need's a MoS clean up
    • The get out section should have more ideas for possible options post-Beylaqan(e.g. going to Barda, exploring the rest of southern Azerbaijan, oil sanatoriums in Naftalan, etc.)
    • The page would benefit from the creation of foreign language pages
    • There should be more things to do in Beylaqan
    • Fill out the Southern area in Azerbaijan!

  • Ko Lanta. Reasonably good, popular northern summer destination in Thailand:
    • Needs a MoS clean up.
    • Needs the addition of cheaper, backpacker budget accommodation, almost everything there is mid range or luxury.
    • Needs better coverage of Lanta Old Town
    • Needs better coverage non-diving activities; there are, I believe, snorkeling tours and kayaking and so on being left out, plus elephant rides
    • Could use a map showing the various beaches at least on the western side where the resorts are.

  • Kish Island

  • Agra
    • A famous tourist destination with the Taj Mahal and two other World Heritage sites.
    • Article has a lot of information and some good text, but needs a workover.

  • Zaqatala city - located in the Sheki region of Azerbaijan, with friendly, open, and liberal people:
    • The page need's a MoS clean up
    • The get out section should have more ideas for possible options for trips after Zaqatala
    • The page would benefit from the creation of foreign language pages
    • There is hiking in Zaqatala, but nothing writen about it
    • Fill out the Sheki area in Azerbaijan! Cupcakecommander 02:42, 21 May 2008 (EDT)
  • Qabala city - located in the Sheki region of Azerbaijan, with friendly people:
    • The page need's a MoS clean up
    • The get out section should have more ideas for possible options for trips after Qabala
    • More resorts should be placed on the site

  • Quba city - located in the northwest region of Azerbaijan with unique minority groups and tasty food:

    • The page would benefit from the creation of foreign language pages

  • Khinalig city - located in the northwest region of Azerbaijan with beautiful landscape, a unique culture, and a special way of life:
    • The page need's a MoS clean up
    • The get out section should have the possible options expanded for trips after Khinalig
    • More options for staying the night should be placed on the site
    • Hiking should be included
    • More eating options
    • The page would benefit from the creation of foreign language pages

  • Beijing - it's the Olympic City come August 8th. Wikitravel's page should be up-to-date and helpful!
    • There's a lot of recent public transportation infrastructure that's been added and should be explained.
    • The Beijing 2008 Olympic page sucks ([1]) and needs reworking.
    • MoS clean-up.
    • Restaurants should be ordered in a more meaningful way.
    • List of things to Do seems very small for a city with >15m residents.
    • Get Out list should be longer to suggest daytrips away from the city.
    • If the sights could be grouped by location that might help planning visits. --Julian Suddaby 06:11, 11 July 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Updating the Cotw

To update the current Collaboration of the Week you should:

  1. Remove the current collaboration from this page and move the next one up.
  2. Move the current collaboration to the previous collaborations page.
  3. Remove the Cotw template from the current Cotw page and add the Pcotw template to its talk page.
  4. Add the Cotw template to the next collaboration article.
  5. Update the Template:Current COTW with the current COTW.
  6. Clear the cache for the Wikitravel:Project page by clicking here
  7. Clear the cache for the Main Page by clicking here
