[edit] Upgrade coming soon

The site went down for a while today due to (you guessed it) excess load. I believe the problem may come from PHPTAL, which may or may not be fixed by upgrading to Mediawiki 1.4.x. I'm going to be doing some "emergency" upgrades over the next week to try and fix the problem. I couldn't say why this problem pops up now, after almost 5 months, but I guess it needs to be dealt with. --Evan 16:53, 2 May 2005 (EDT)

...and that's done (see Special:Version). Took a while, and had a lot of hiccups (anyone who viewed the site between about 02:00 and 04:00UTC probably got a good scare), but it seems to have been successful. This is hopefully the first step towards fixing some of the long-outstanding bugs on the bug list. And, of course, keeping the site going. Thanks for everyone's patience, and please report any bugs. --Evan 23:13, 2 May 2005 (EDT)
I asume this is related, but I had to log out and log in again to get a few things working correctly ("My Contributions" being one example). Otherwise it seems good - the bold font on the "diff" pages is a nice addition, and the <gallery> thing is also nice. Any other user-visible changes in this release? The changelog at Sourceforge mentions only a handful of items. -- Wrh2 04:11, 3 May 2005 (EDT)

[edit] RC Patrol

I'd like to enable the Patrolled edit feature for our wikis here. I see no major harm in it, and it would probably help with reviewing the site. The defensive, militaristic name kinda puts me off, but I guess it's fine. Any other feelings about it? Objections? --Evan 23:31, 2 May 2005 (EDT)

Might as well give it a shot. Might work, might not, but sometimes it takes a live fire excercise to find out. -- Mark
Is this going to be enabled only for admins? If it will be available to everyone then it may be worth creating some guidelines as to when an edit is to be marked as "good". -- Wrh2 04:11, 3 May 2005 (EDT)
