Westport is in Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Get in[edit]

By Car Westport is easy to travel to by car. If heading from north and east or south and west on the Merritt Parkway, take exit 42. If coming from north and east on I-95, exit 17 will take you to Post Road. Coming from south and west on I-95, exit 18 will do the same.

By Train MTA dial 511 for MTA information and schedules Traveling by train is one of the best way to get to Westport, especially if traveling from New York City area or New Haven. There are two Metro-North stations; Saugatuck is located at 1 Railroad Place and the second, Green Farms, is located at 2 Post Office Lane. By Bus 275 Wilson Avenue, Norwalk CT +203-852-0000 The Norwalk Transit District Accessible to the community and travels through Westport, Greenwich, and Norwalk. The Westport Route is only available 8AM-5:30PM M-F and select holidays. See website for official routes and schedules.

By Car It is most convenient to travel around Westport by car. Most attractions are off of Post Road and provide parking. However, roads are busy between 8AM-noon and 5PM-7PM.

By Foot/Bike If in town or by the beaches, it is best to travel on foot or by bike. There are plenty of sidewalks and bike trails throughout the town and it is suggested to use them to avoid heavy traffic and better enjoy the scenery.

  • Westport Astronomical Society, 182 Bayberry Lane, +203 293-8759. Wednesdays 8PM-10PM. WAS Home of the Rolnick Observatory, the Dome Observatory holds a Newtonian telescope as well as an Obsession telescope that is available to the public to see the night sky. Perfect for families with younger kids who are looking for an activity on a summer night. The Dome is not always open so be sure to check the websites main page before going. Free of Charge.  edit
  • Westport Country Playhouse, 25 Powers Court, +203 227-4177. Westport Playhouse The Playhouse is home to several different events, plays, and musicals. Tickets can be ordered online, by phone, or in person. You can also purchase tickets prior to a showing. Some shows do sell out but usually have alternate show times.   • Westport Country Playhouse - summer theater that has benefited greatly from the contributions of Westport residents Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman.
  • Compo Beach, 60 Compo Beach Road. 01 May-30 Sept 4AM-10PM daily. There is a lifeguard on duty from Memorial Day to Labor Day between 10AM and 6PM. If you are a resident of Westport, you have a separate beach sticker. This means you have access to an alternate parking lot, and can go to the South beach. This area does not have a lifeguard on duty, but is less packed and much more quiet. The beach has volleyball courts, concession stands, bathroom facilities, as well as access to the connecting park with basketball courts, athletic fields, and playground. $30 on weekdays $50 on weekends and holidays.  edit
  • Longshore Pool, 260 South Compo Rd. May 25-Sept 2 See website for full hours and holiday schedules. Longshore Pool Three separate pools including a recreational pool, training pool, and a wading pool. Clean pools and locker rooms and handicap accessibility. There is a local beach as well as park and picnic tables available in the area. Guest passes are available for $9.00 per person but must be accompanied by a Handpass Holder. Children under the age of 6 are free.  edit

  • Westport Library Book Sale, 20 Jesup Road. Winter and Summer events. Dates and times are updated monthly. See website. Westport Library This sale has thousands of books including hardcover and paperback of all genres. They also promote children’s books for $1 or less. This book sale is unique for the vinyl records and cassettes that you can find there as well. The summer sale is busier than the winter sale since it is located just outside the library. Parking during the summer sale can be difficult to find so it is suggested to walk if possible.  edit
  • Westport Downtown Merchants Association, 159 Main Street, +203 505-8716. Downtown Westport Main strip in Westport of restaurants and shopping centers with local boutiques and popular retailers. Parking lots and street parking is available but can be crowded during weekends and summer time. Special seasonal sales take place such as sidewalk sales during the summer time.   • Shake Shack, 1849 Post Road East (off I-95, Exit 19), 203 682-6570. Su-Th 11AM-9:30PM F-Sa 11AM-11PM. Westport Shake Shack Fancier, more expensive version of burger, fries, dogs, and frozen custard. Clean, friendly, family environment with good hospitality service that makes for a good experience. Lines out the door during warmer seasons with limited parking (there is parking across the street, but it is an extremely busy main road) $4.00-$9.00.  edit
  • Via Sforza Trattoria, 243 Post Rd West, +203 454-4444. M 5PM-10PM T-Th noon-10PM F noon-10:30PM Sa 5PM-10:30PM Su 11AM-9PM. Via Sforza Trattoria Italian cuisine with both New York style and brick oven pizza. Family atmosphere and a traditional feel. They do not accept reservations and can be busy during prime dinner hours and Sunday brunch hours. See website for full lunch, dinner, and brunch menus. $7.00-$26.00.  edit

  • The Westport Inn, 1595 Post Road East (exit 18 off I-95, about a mile and a half down Post Road), +203 418-2500. The Westport Inn Modern, New England hospitality with fairly new renovations. A more expensive inn, but provide several packages that accommodate to where you are traveling to such as beach, spa, or city trips. $140 and up.  edit
  • The Inn at Longshore, 260 South Compo Rd, +203 226-3316. The Inn at Longshore Traditional style 12 guest rooms available. More suited for events such as weddings or outdoors corporate events. Compo beach and park is only ten minutes down the road. $140 and up.  edit
