Westfield [1] is a town and a northern suburb of Indianapolis in the Nine-County Region of Indiana.

Get in[edit]

While you can get close by plane, a car is a necessity to reach Westfield. There is no bus or train accessibility to Westfield; however, since it is close to Indianapolis you can see arrival options there too.

By car[edit]

Westfield is located east of Highway 31, which becomes Meridian Street in Indianapolis. It also is accessible by east/west Highway 32.

By plane[edit]

In addition to the Col. Weir Cook Indianapolis International Airport [2], located off of I-70 in Indianapolis, smaller planes can schedule a landing at one of two airports in Hamilton County and nearby Boone County, located just west of Hamilton County. Both offer aircraft charter, sales, rental, catering, flight school and more.

Museums[edit]

  • Westfield-Washington Historical Society Museum [7] 145 S. Union St. 1-317-804-5365. Learn about the unique history of Westfield and Washington Township. Underground Railroad, Quaker families, Anti-Slavery Friends, Businesses and Farmers, Orphan Train, Monon and Midland Railroads, 1861 Union High School and so much more. Admission: donations. Hours: Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., call for special appointments.
  • Fallen Hoosiers Memorial [8] 401 N. Union Street. A memorial to honor the men and women from Indiana who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Landmarks and Arts[edit]

  • Actors Theatre of Indiana [9] 1-317-669-7983. Stages a four-show season of community theater each year.
  • Downtown Westfield Association 1-317-804-5365. Many charming buildings have been renovated in the downtown area and host retail businesses, including a restaurant, pharmacy, flower & gift shop, village pizza parlor and ice creamery, quilting shop, and gift & garden shop. Known for its Quaker heritage and role in the Underground Railroad, Westfield is a great town for walking tours. The Westfield Washington Historical Society can provide background information on tours.
  • Westfield Playhouse [10] 317-776-2558. Main Street Productions of Westfield is a community theater presenting a variety of six shows between February and December.

  • Westfield Rocks the 4th [11] (July 4th) Asa Bales Park 205 West Hoover Street, Westfield, IN 46074. 317-804-3184. At Westfield's annual 4th of July festival, the city celebrates the 4th of July in style with live music, a car show, food and marketplace vendors, a kids area, a beverage garden, and a fabulous Independence Day Fireworks Display!

  • Asa Bales Park Hoover Street and US 32. Named after the man credited for naming Westfield. The park includes a skate park, two pavilions, a walking trail, and playground.
  • Chauncey Allen Park Smith Avenue near the State Veteran’s pool, 10 acre park and gardens.
  • Monon Trail The rail trail extension from Indianapolis in Westfield is being completed in phases, with the first mile completed in 2008.
  • Quaker Park 17501 Dartown Rd. Splash park, playground and picnic areas.
  • Westfield Skateboard Facility at Amelia Park South Middle School off S. Broad St.
  • Cool Creek Park and Nature Center [13] 2000 East 151st Street. (317) 774-2500. This 105-acre park has approximately five miles of trails great for jogging, hiking, bike riding, and even equestrian trails. Cool Creek Nature Center educates the importance of plants and animals in their natural habitat. Plus, Cool Creek Park hosts an annual Summer Concert Series.
  • Grand Park Westfield’s new 360-acre outdoor sports complex is still in development and will be opening in 2014. When completed, Grand Park will include 26 baseball diamonds and 31 full-size soccer fields, as well as a 93,000 sq. ft. indoor facility.

All haunted sites are located in Hamilton County including Carmel, Westfield, Hortonville, Sheridan, and Noblesville. Come visit the Underground Railroad walking tour in Westfield and learn about the only Indiana city that united together as one to help fugitives to escape.
