Westfield [1] is a town and a northern suburb of Indianapolis in the Nine-County Region of Indiana.

While you can get close by plane, a car is a necessity to reach Westfield. There is no bus or train accessiblity to Westfield, however, since it is close to Indianapolis you can see arrival options there too.

Westfield is located east of Highway 31, which becomes Meridian Street in Indianapolis. It also is accessible by east/west Highway 32.

In addition to the Col. Weir Cook Indianapolis International Airport [2], located off of I-70 in Indianapolis, smaller planes can schedule a landing at one of two airports in Hamilton County and nearby Boone County, located just west of Hamilton County. Both offer aircraft charter, sales, rental, catering, flight school and more.

  • Westfield-Washington Historical Society Museum [5] 145 S. Union St. 1-317-804-5365. Just opened in 2008, this small museum is dedicated to preserving the history of Westfield.

  • Actors Theatre of Indiana [6] 1-317-669-7983 Stages a four-show season of community theater each year.
  • Gallery One 36 Fine Art Gallery & Studio [7] 136 E. Main St. 1-317-867-4139. Fine arts gallery open Thursdays and Fridays and by appointment, showcasing local 2D and 3D artists as well as jewelry.
  • Downtown Westfield Many charming buildings have been renovated in the downtown area and host retail businesses, including a restaurant, pharmacy, flower & gift shop, village pizza parlor and ice creamery, quilting shop, and gift & garden shop. Known for its Quaker heritage and role in the Underground Railroad, Westfield is a great town for walking tours.   • September NUMA Arts and Cultural Festival The festival, which is organized by the Westfield Neighborhood Association, showcases local artists AND a national chili cook-off competition. A car show and interactive arts area were included in 2008.

  • Asa Bales Park Hoover Street and US 32. Names after the man credited for naming Westfield. The park includes a skate park, two pavilions, a walking trail and playground.
  • Chauncey Allen Park Smith Avenue near the State Veteran’s pool, 10 acre park and gardens.
  • Monon Trail The rail trail extension from Indianapolis in Westfield is being completed in phases, with the first mile completed in 2008.

  • Stitches & Scones [11] 120 N. Union St. 1-317-896-4411. Voted Indiana’s best craft store, this store has all your supplies for knitting, crochet, needlepoint, spinning and weaving. The staff here are excellent. They all have years of experience but are patient with newbies. Mollie, the owner, recently opened Crafty Capers in the building next door to encourage fiber arts projects with younger sewers and kids. They also offer free baked scones as long as they last each morning!
  • Clay Terrace 14300 Clay Terrace Blvd. 1-317-566-0011. [12] Locaed just outside of Westfield in Carmel (Indiana), this open-air mall has a wide variety of shops and restaurants. Shops include DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse, Dick's Sporting Goods, Circuit City, Wild Oats, Sur La Table, Z Gallerie, Indigo Nation, HOMExperience by Estridge, and White House/Black Market. Clay Terrace is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll and window-shopping experience, or an all out shopping spree. Many of the shops are unique and are not featured anywhere else close by. Enjoy shopping on Thursday evenings in the summer with local live music playing in the background.

  • Kelties [13] 110 Union St. 1-317-867-3525. This is a quaint, lovely little restaurant in the heart of Westfield. In addition to some stick-to-your-ribs Midwest food like her beggar’s purse, Keltie offers straightforward but good beef, pork and chicken dishes. Open for lunch and dinner. Kelties is also known for its etiquette classes – good manners for kids and adults.

  • Big Hoffa’s Smokehouse BBQ [14] 800 E. Main St. 1-317-867-0077. Open Tuesdays through Sundays, call for hours. The restaurant offers BBQ in a bunch of varieties, at a great price ($4.95 for a quarter rack of pork ribs, less for a home smoked pulled pork sandwich) The real treat is Adam’s (aka Big Hoffa) beef jerky. In addition to the standard beef jerky flavor, he also smokes a teriyaki version.
