Midigama is a relaxed beach town with uncrowded surf and friendly locals. Midigama is what Hikkadua was in the 70's and now lacks.
Bus: Buses running around the coast pass along the Colombo to matara road every 20minutes or more frequently 24 hours per day. Train: under construction at the time of writing but when running will be a stop on the Colombo to Matara line. See Colombo fort train station departure times.
Tuk tuk: more expensive than buses but take you door to door. approx 700rupee from Midigama to Galle, 150-200rupee to Welligama. Bus: cheap and easy way to get around the main features but is restricted to the main roads. Pass along road every 10-20minutes.
Surf: multiple surf breaks within walking distance along the coast. Lazy lefts - popular left hand reef break with easy take off and long walls great for mid range surfers. Ram's - A frame reef break with steep take off and hollow sections on both right and left, beware shallow reef. The surfing season is from Okt-Apr. Best conditions can be found in March.
Beach: great for swimming snorkeling and relaxing when not surfing.
Dive: Scuba dive with Weligama Bay Dive Centre. The only PADI registered Dive School in the area. They offer Fun Dives $35; Discovery Dive $60; Open Water and Advanced courses. They have a number of great dive spots where you can see Turtles, Rays,a lot of fish life and you may even be lucky enough to see a whale shark!
Go Whale Watching and see a Blue Whale - the biggest animal ever to live! Whale watching tours can be arranged through Mirissa Whale-Watching Club. They are lovely people who run the tours. Breakfast, beer and hot and cold beverages are included in the price. The company will also give you a free trip the following day if no whale is seen.
