Wadowice is a town 70km west of Krakow and five km west of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska and 40 km south of Auschwitz in Western Beskids in Poland.


Wadowice is a pretty small town with a late baroque church. Karol Wojtyla, the later pope John Paul II, was born there in 1920. -website of Tourist Information .

Get in[edit]

It is easily accessible from Krakow and Katowice by car, bus or train.

The birth house of Karol Wojtyla can be visited. It is a museum now. Also the church, where he was baptized.


Numerous cafes around the market square sell famous papal cake [1].
