Robotic welcome[edit]

Hello! Welcome to Wikitravel. To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Wikitravel:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. -- Tyen 15:30, 20 March 2013 (EDT)

Touting by switching user names[edit]

I've previously left unanswered messages for greenwoodtravel.nl at User_talk:Paul-greenwoodtravel

If you carry on touting, you will probably be blocked.

Just ignoring editors is just not going to work for you! --118dot93dot73dot30 18:24, 20 March 2013 (EDT)

My apologies for "wrong" doing your wiki pages. I am new to this place and i don't know what is correct and what is incorrect. I get the part about not advertising yourself on all Wikitravel pages, but i taught it would be okey to add additional activities to areas already used to "promote" activities. Again sorry for the inconvenience I may have caused. —The preceding comment was added by Paul-asis-2 (talkcontribs) 05:16, 21 March 2013 UTC
Apology accepted.
There is a lot to learn here especially for those editing in furtherance of business. Take a look at these links: wbo and UUTP.
You can't learn by copying others - in this case, I had your firm on red alert and I removed a lot of other touting listing that were in the wrong place as well as yours. After you've read a bit, then try and think where information may be placed that is mutually beneficial to your business and to travellers - and then try and follow our policies and Manual of Style... --118dot93dot73dot30 01:32, 21 March 2013 (EDT)
Usually it's up to you what you delete on your own user talk page but, in this case, this topic is linked from other pages and really shouldn't be archived for at least 6 months so that other admins can see it and see that you (at least) are a reformed character. --118dot93dot73dot30 22:50, 24 March 2013 (EDT)

Kanchanaburi listing[edit]

I am sorry to bother you again, but i have a questions about a piece i want to post. I have been reading all the information about tour agents and touting and i was wondering if i could post the next activity in the Kanchanaburi page at the "do" part without upsetting anyone? (the tour is private owned and quite special to be honest) Thank you in advance.

  • Sangklaburi the entrance to Birma (Sangklaburi de toegangspoort naar Birma), 488/ 800 Bo Bae ower, Damrongrak Rd, Klong Mahanak, Pomprab, Bangkok 10100 (crossing Kanchananuri to the border with Birma), +66 2628 4384 (), [1]. 3 Days 2 Nights, M/W open. A adventures tour through the beautiful nature of Kanchanaburi with its rich history. Be introduced to the elephants and their caretakers, navigate the river with a raft and ride the notorious train tracks in a old train. Do not expect any luxury but sincerity near the border with Myanmar 5750-10950 bath (Price fluctuates with number of participants).  edit
In principle, Yes.
Our policy is to be found at tour.
This states "Tours can be listed on Wikitravel as long as they constitute a value-added activity. If a traveller could fulfil the substance of the tour on their own, the tour should not be listed!"
If I have understood your proposed listing correctly, I believe it meets those conditions since I presume it would be very difficult (but probably not impossible) for an independent traveller to arrange the train, elephant and rafting elements.
However, you will need to format it correctly according to our manual of style, so (call it a little test to see if you are indeed a reformed character) please read phones, ฿, days and Listing and then add the revised listing (conforming entirely to our MoS below. Don't worry about the English description, I will revise that - as long as you can prove to me that you have put the effort in to study our Manual of Style.
At the very least, I expect the next message from you to be properly signed. Read UUTP for instructions on how to do this, please. --118dot93dot73dot30 05:18, 22 March 2013 (EDT)
Thanks again for helping me! i have now adjusted the remarks you gave me about the post. There is only one thing that i don't get at the moment, I can add this to the "do" part of the page but than i have to give it the heading "tour"?

I can see that you have made some progress with days and $. However you have still not understood UUTP and managed to sign your name correctly using 4 tildes.
Main article space edits (and including listings) are NEVER signed - talk and discussion page contributions should be signed.
I can see that you are making progress, so please do another listing below, make some comments underneath it and then sign your comments.
When you "pass" my test, I will then translate your listing into proper English (I assume your most familiar language is Dutch) and then list it for you. Until then please do not place a listing in article namespace or I will remove it (I will now go and remove your {partially better} latest attempt at a listing)
Also, please learn how to look at edit histories and summaries - an example is here --118dot93dot73dot30 19:48, 22 March 2013 (EDT)

Sorry again! I thought this time the listing was correct. I think I understand the UUTP now. My familiar language is indeed Dutch, so feel free to correct any spelling/grammar mistakes and bad form. Could you please post the link to "edit histories and summaries" again. I am not able to use the link. ("Paul-asis-2 22:53, 22 March 2013 (EDT)")
This would be the proposed listing:
  • Sangklaburi to Burma, 488/800 Bo Bae ower, Damrongrak Rd, Klong Mahanak, Pomprab, Bangkok 10100, +66 2628 4384 (). Leaves M/W for 3 days and 2 nights. An organised adventures tour that crosses Kanchananuri to the border with Burma. Elephants and their caretakers, navigate the river with a raft and ride the notorious train tracks in an old train. Do not expect any luxury but sincerity. 5,750-10,950 baht (price fluctuates with number of participants).  edit
However, before I can list it I need the exact page URL - not just a link to a home page! --118dot93dot73dot30 03:21, 23 March 2013 (EDT)
Is that acceptable, please? --118dot93dot73dot30 03:21, 23 March 2013 (EDT)

Tell me this time I hit gold! :) ("Paul-asis-2 04:02, 23 March 2013 (EDT)")
You have misunderstood me.
You do not need to do any more trial listings here.
You need to tell me the address of the English language page that deals with this tour you want listed. http://www.greenwoodtravel.nl/tours/bangkok/sangklaburi-de-toegangspoort-naar-birma-3-dagen-2-nachten is in Dutch - but this is the English language version of Wikitravel.
The Dutch version of Wikitravel is here: http://wikitravel.org/nl/Hoofdpagina if you would prefer a listing there.
Also, you still don't seem to be signing your name by just writing 4 tildes: ~~~~ 118dot93dot73dot30 04:49, 23 March 2013 (EDT)
okay thanks again for taking the time to teach me. I just posted my first piece in dutch with the right listing off course! Paul-asis-2 05:19, 23 March 2013 (EDT)
I'm glad you learned a little and I hope to seen you back making more edits of value to travellers reading the English language version of Wikitravel. I have inserted your listing now - but without an xl until and unless there is an appropriate one in English... --118dot93dot73dot30 06:29, 23 March 2013 (EDT)
