Hello Markbrough!

Welcome to Wikitravel. Please take a sec to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Wikitravel:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.

Than you for contributing to Cuzco, Arequipa, Peru, Uruguay, Singapore, and Argentina. However, please read the Wikitravel:Image policy; the images that you uploaded do not comply as they are too large and do not have copyright attributions. If you took the images, please add a note saying so, or advice where you obtained them from. -- Huttite 06:54, 4 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Hi huttite, I've changed the cusco image already (and maybe some others by the time you read this), scaled it down and added copyright information (they're all taken by me). However when I click on them they still come out the same size as the previous ones, though now pixelated because the real files are much smaller. I'm not sure why this is. Could you help me, please? many thanks -- Mark 14:32, 4 Apr 2005 (GMT/BST)

I think you've stumbled on a bug -- the image is intact if you right click to View Image, but the Image page shows it with the old size. It should still be OK to use as a thumb in content pages. Jpatokal 11:15, 4 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Also, why are there both get in and get out sections? -- Mark 15:09, 4 Apr 2005 (GMT/BST)

"In" is meant for getting in, while "out" is meant for excursions around the city and nearby destinations. No, you're not the first one to be confused by this naming... Jpatokal 11:15, 4 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Surely then it would be better to simply call the two sections "getting there and away" and "getting around"? With the bug thing, would it be better if I just deleted the old image and replaced it? And how would I go about doing that? Mark 18:07, 4 Apr 2005 (GMT/BST)

I look fine!
I look fine!
The section for getting around the city is called "Get around". We don't use "Getting there and away" because that's Lonely Planet's line.
Regarding the bug, don't worry about it, you can still use the image. See example thumbnail to the right. Jpatokal 13:40, 4 Apr 2005 (EDT)
Your scaled down image of Cusco look fine to me now. I wonder if the issue was your browser cache not purging the old image or page correctly. The image also downloads a breeze over my dialup link now. Thanks again for your contributions. -- Huttite 07:51, 5 Apr 2005 (EDT)
OK. Thanks for clarifying all that. Presumably it's generally accepted that there should be a loss in image quality in order to speed up downloads? Or is it more a case of server storage space? -- Markbrough 13:36, 5 Apr 2005 (EDT)

[edit] It's the page cache

Whenever you upload a new version of an image you need to edit and save the image page so as to refresh the cached version of the page. -- Mark 08:43, 5 Apr 2005 (EDT)

BTW.. I'm a little concerned that people might get us confused, but maybe there's an easy solution. You can make your signature much more easily by typing this:

That way you don't have to worry about the date and time, and your posts will be signed by User:Markbrough instead of me, User:Mark. -- Mark 08:43, 5 Apr 2005 (EDT)

OK. Will do. Thanks very much for all your advice. -- Markbrough 13:36, 5 Apr 2005 (EDT)
